on meetings

A meeting without a clear question it’s trying to answer is a gathering. Gatherings are fine but they should be called what they are.

The best meetings I’ve been in had someone responsible for the outcome, a question written at the top of the agenda, and a decision at the end. The worst had none of these.

Synchronous time is expensive. It’s the only resource that everyone on the call is spending simultaneously. Treat it accordingly.

If the meeting could have been an async doc, it should have been. But some decisions need the room. Know the difference.
